South Croydon Conservative Club
A century-old members' club stuck on a slow, unmaintainable WordPress site. Rebuilt by hand, faster, calmer, and finally something the committee can keep up to date.
South Croydon Conservative Club has served its members for over a century. Its website did not reflect that, it ran on an ageing WordPress install, weighed down by plugins, slow to load, and awkward on a phone.
Nobody on the committee could safely change anything. Fixtures and events drifted out of date, room-hire enquiries were easy to miss, and the hosting arrangement was a bill nobody fully understood.
A calmer site, properly wired.
- A hand-built static rebuild, no plugins to break, nothing to log into and fight with. It loads almost instantly, on any device.
- Clear pages for membership, the bar and function room, events and fixtures, and getting in touch, each written in plain English.
- A room-hire enquiry path that actually reaches someone, so bookings stop slipping through.
- Hosting, domain, email and SSL brought under one roof and properly documented, so there are no more mystery bills.
Measured, not claimed.
Google Lighthouse scores for the live site, mobile, out of 100. Captured July 2026.
Measured with Google Lighthouse against the live site on an emulated mobile connection. Best practices and search readiness both score full marks; accessibility sits just short of it.
The club is on a care plan: changes to fixtures and events are sent over and made within 48 hours, backups run daily, and the site is monitored so problems are caught before members notice.
